Thinking Through Time
This dark purple slip gown was made for my creative fashion 1 class, 2023. The runway photos below are from New England fashion week 2024. While the mannequin display was in Copley Plaza for a gallery with Massart called “Thinking Through Time”. On one of the last photos you’ll see the item I chose from the Massart archive to base this piece around. It is a snuff jar from the 1920s. I built this character, Amelia, that would have this item and made her garments around that. With sketches, close ups, mood boards and a technical flat you can really see the whole process. The beads are all hand strung and the appliqués are hand sewn. I really tried to capture the wear and tear of this cocaine addicted 1920s jazz singer while keeping her elegant and sleek. The other two sketches are other dresses I was assigned to draw for the character.
